About the NY Metro Parents Association

The NY Metro PA holds at least 4 Parents Association meeting per academic year to report on relevant Academy issues, communicate directly with parents, and give you a direct link to the administration. Our in-person meetings are held at the Academy and all member Mids are invited to join us for dinner before we get started. All of our meetings have a Zoom option for parents out of the area or unable to attend.

Our Officers are local to the Academy and are sometimes called upon to visit a Mid of an out of area family if they are in need of support. Whether that means a little time away from the Academy for coffee or a quick meal, a hospital visit if something unfortunate happens, or just some advice on the local community, we are here for ALL Mids in that capacity. Many of our members reside across the country and join the NY Metro PA in addition to their local chapter.  

 We offer the following opportunities for member Parents to visit the Academy to volunteer and help us welcome new families and alumni, sell merchandise, or to socialize with each other and their Mids.  

• Welcome table at Indoc for incoming families 
• Welcome table at Parents Weekend for all families 
• Welcome Back table for all attending Homecoming Weekend 
• Volunteer at the Regimental Holiday Dinner for all Academy Mids 
• Co-Sponsor of the Cookie Café once per year 

 Your dues plus the revenue raised with merchandise sales and other donations support the following events for your Plebes, their families, and all our Midshipmen: 

• Welcome BBQ for local area Plebe Candidate Families in conjunction with the Long Island Chapter of the Alumni Association the weekend before Indoc
• Sponsor and host the Regimental Holiday Dinner for ALL Academy Mids 
• Arrange and host the New York Area All-Academies Ball over winter break in coordination with the other 4 service academies and their parents

During exam weeks, we sometimes provide gift cards or snacks to NY Metro PA Mids so they can focus on their studies. At our Spring meeting, we present each member family's senior with a custom Bell Plaque to commemorate them ringing the bell when passing the Coast Guard licensing exam.
